August 29th, 2005, 11:10 PM

Hello!

Here’s a few brief announcements for this week:

Nick Morrish’s Eagle scout ceremony “will be happening on august 30th
at First United Methodist Church Sanctuary (address being 1675
Winchester Boulevard, campbell, california). All are welcome!”

This Tuesday, additionally, the Emmerts are once again hosting their
bible study on the Bethel lawn at 7 pm.

In other news, we’re having the annual planning meeting Wednesday,
the 31st, so come at 5:30 for a chipotle dinner, or at 7:15 for just
the planning session – so make sure to put on your thinking caps and
get some good ideas for next year!

Thanks
Jim

And on Wednesday, the 24th, we’re having the premier of the Common Ground video, with pizza and soda – so bring 7 dollars and pick up your DVD that night – since its price was already included in the Common Ground tour fee.Â

Hello!

So last week’s succession of trips was a wild and exciting one, and
pictures of these trips will be uploaded to the website soon… but
speaking of the website, blcyouth.com has had an image makeover
(perhaps an extreme life makeover?), courtesy of the Fields brothers,
so check out the new layout at blcyouth.com … and in other exciting
news, I would include…

Birthdays!
Oops! I already included these last week… so refer to that.

But I still have other exciting news to share! Recently, Tom
announced the Youth assistants for next year, an excitable bunch, to
say the least, whose names I’m including below:

Karen Emmert
Jim Fields
Rachelle Pierson
Sarah Evashank

So things are sure to be interesting with that dynamic group…. and
in more immediate news, this Wednesday’s activity is going to be a
trip to Malibu Grand Prix! We’ll meet, along with the junior high, at
5 o’clock to depart for the Grand Prix. So bring 15 dollars for this
exciting trip, and be aware that we’re going to return at 10 o’clock.

The weekly palindrome, in the spirit of going to Malibu Grand Prix:
“Racecar.”*

Have a great week!
Jim

* I know this was used already, but it seemed especially appropriate
to use it again. I apologize if you were offended by this palindrome
recycle.

Weekly Newsletter – August 8th

August 8th, 2005, 1:20 PM

Hello, All!

So, dinner and a movie night was fun, with many Bethel members enjoying a variety of interesting films at AMC 14. And speaking of things that are interesting, exciting, and often feature loud noises, let’s mention this week’s birthdays! I neglected to include Birthday’s last week, so here goes!

1st Audrey SaundersÂ

3rd Rachelle PiersonÂ

3rd Jillian TowarÂ

6th Courtney GuetschowÂ

9th Tori NybergÂ

9th Heather WinterhalterÂ

9th Kate SackettÂ

11th Adrienne AbneyÂ

12th Jennifer BorweyÂ

16th Laura KoenigÂ

17th Sarah HawleyÂ

18th Tasha EuryÂ

18th Patrick MillerÂ

18th Mike RoseÂ

20th Ann-So FranzenÂ

On a sadder note, though, there is no activity this Wednesday, as the Orland group is returning late that evening. In any, case, though, I hope you have a pleasant week and that you pray for the safe travels and fun times of those in Orland – or for any Bethel youth vacationing afar this summer.

But! This Tuesday, we might have bible study, if you call 408 244 0282 and inform Maggie and Steve Emmert that you would like to come! They are concerned that people might not come, seeing as so many are gone, but if you would, please let them no.

Stay Classy, Bethel Youth!

- Jim

PS – I almost forgot the weekly palindrome!

“Kayak.” Yes, that’s it – “Kayak.” Yippee.

Orland Trip 2005: RSVP ASAP

August 6th, 2005, 2:08 PM

Hello -

So, Tom would like to know who exactly is going on the trip to
Orland; therefore, I’m including details and how to RSVP below:

The trip itself is from this Monday, August 8th, until Wednesday
night, of August 10th. We’re meeting at 9 o’clock Monday morning,
and departing for Orland, which, for those who don’t know, is located
some 200 miles north of where most of Bethel youth live. While there,
we’ll spend most of the time at a local lake, driving boats across
it, with jetskiing, tubing, and with all sorts of fun water options
abounding. We’ll stay with Rita’s parents, the Johnsons, while there,
and they’re almost an attraction on their own, with the good stories
and generosity they offer in sharing their home with us. We’ll then
return Wednesday evening, although the precise time is unknown, so
just be aware that we’ll return sometime that evening.

So! If you would like to go, you need to let Tom know by tomorrow
morning after church, so you can either tell him at church or do so
by telephone if you’re attending. The cost of the trip is 75 dollars,
plus money for two meals on the road, so make sure you have that to
Tom as soon as possible. If you can’t be at church tomorrow, let him
know that you’re coming by calling his cell phone: 408.309.9975

As far as other things to bring: Tom advises you to pack light, to
bring your suit, towel, some clothes, and a sparse collection of the
other items you’ll need for a three-day trip (toiletries, etc). If
you have any other questions, once again, call Tom’s cell phone – his
number’s included above.

Have a fun-filled week!
Jim

Weekly Newsletter – July 31st

Hey!

I’ll jump straight to two weeks of…

Birthdays!

21st Jannine MossÂ

21st Andy WebergÂ

23rd Debbie JohnsonÂ

23rd Ingrid PetersenÂ

31st Matt GrantÂ

In any case!Â

This Monday, the first of August, we’re meeting at 4 pm for a beach bonfire and BBQ, so come to Bethel at 4 and bring 10 dollars for an evening of sandy, wacky, meaty fun.

On Tuesday, the second, our eccentric college agers are departing for Cayucos for their beach trip, from which they will return on Saturday, the sixth.

On Wednesday, the high school group will meet at 6 pm for dinner and a movie, so bring 10 dollars plus money for food, and be ready for a fun night of movies, food, friends, etc.

Whew! That’s a lot of activities. And for the weekly palindrome, I’ll surprise you by saying I’ve included the weekly palindrome somewhere in the text of this message… see if you can find it!

Have a great week!

Jim

PS – Edit peptide.

Weekly Newsletter – July 17th

July 17th, 2005, 7:34 PM

Hello, Hello!

So last week was an exciting one, with good times, sand, candy, and glow-in-the-dark vampire teeth enjoyed by a bevy of Bethel beachgoers. And speaking of words that begin with B, let’s talk about:

Birthdays!

19th Dave NybergÂ

21st Jannine MossÂ

21st Andy WebergÂ

23rd Debbie JohnsonÂ

23rd Ingrid PetersenÂ

And, for this week’s events: Tuesday, July 19th, we’re going to Raging Waters! Meet at Bethel at 10:30 and bring 25.00 to cover expenses (including a lunchtime BBQ), or, for those who enjoy discounts, bring 12.50 if you’re working for three (3) or more days at Vacation Bible School. We’ll get back at 6 pm, so bring your swimsuit, sunscreen, and all other raging waters accessories – the most important being, of course, a good attitude.

This Tuesday night, though, we will not be enjoying the Emmert-hosted bible study led by Steve and Maggie Emmert, so cross that off your calendars, if you had written bible study down there… however, bible study will resume on July 26th, so be there or be left out of an evening of fun, interesting biblical discussion.

And Wednesday, we’re meeting at 6:30 for volleyball and BBQ at Creekside park, so come to Bethel at 6:30 (from where we shall depart) with five dollars in your pockets and a desire for good times in your cranium.

And of course, the weekly palindrome:

“Bald Elf fled lab.” Santa must not have liked that!

Have a pleasant, BBQ-filled week!

Jim

As many of you know one of the greatest privileges of

church, our Children’s Ministry program, and to the

children in our community. Â Please take this wonderful

Weekly Newsletter – July 10th

July 10th, 2005, 7:59 PM

Hey, Hey, and Hey again!

So, our Western States buddies are returning home this evening around 11 – be sure to greet them with a high-five and perhaps even a low five, when you see them, for their service and participation at such an exciting event (especially to those in the band, who have a bevy of interesting stories, or so I’ve heard, to share with you). In any case, the Common Ground pictures are online, in case you didn’t hear last week, and the URL for those is still:

http://bethelcupertino.smugmug.com/gallery/627983/47

47 fun-filled gallery pages await at that site, and on that jaunty note, here are some…

Birthdays!

Actually, “J.K.,” there are no birthdays this week… Psyche!

In any case, though, there is some other news to share. First is that every Tuesday night this summer, at 7:00, Maggie and Steve Emmert will be hosting their unique blend of bible study and fellowship, for all high school/college age students. So, the first of these is this Tuesday, the 12th, at 7 PM… “be there or be a rhombus,” as our youth assistants wrote recently… that’s good work, youth assistants!

In other news, this Wednesday (the 13th), we’re meeting at 10 AM to depart for the Santa Cruz beach boardwalk! Bring $20.00 and money for food for this excursion, which is one shared between both members of the junior and senior high – all united under the grand title of Bethel Youth! We’ll get back around 7:30, so bring all your beach-related items, along with the aforementioned cash, for a day of ‘fun-in-the-sun’, cotton candy, and assorted rides.

And of course, the weekly palindrome (by the way, many people have asked me what this is – a palindrome is a word or phrase that is spelled the same forwards and backwards – ‘racecar’ is a simple example):

“Doc Evil nets ten live cod.” … apparently, if you’ve seen Austin Powers, that statement makes sense . . . I hope!

“Peace OUT!”

Hello All!

So, big news! The Common Ground photos are all edited and uploaded, thanks to a certain person who shall remain nameless (although quite handsome). The photos are located at the following URL:

http://bethelcupertino.smugmug.com/gallery/627983/47

47 full gallery pages await at that site, so enjoy… speaking of enjoyment, however, it is time for a list of…

Birthdays!

3rd Katlynn HoegelÂ

3rd Melody MillerÂ

4th Zach DennyÂ

5th Serena SmithÂ

6th Jamie Jacobson

And for this Wednesday, we’re not having wednesday fellowship, since many of our Bethel Youth are departing for the Western States Youth Gathering, in Seattle, Washington! Keep them in your prayers this week, as some are singing in the worship band for the gathering and all are embarking on an exciting journey. For the wednesday following their return (the 13th of July), there is an event, however, which is a trip to The Beach Boardwalk in Santa Cruz, from 10 am until 7:30 pm… more information about this will be forthcoming. For this, though, and other events, please be sure to sign up on ‘The Wall’ outside Tom’s office in Torvend Hall at Bethel. Doing so will allow us to plan for how many people will attend, as far as transportation and other elements of making sure events go smoothly. In short: if there’s an event you’d like to attend, sign up on the Wall!

And, of course, the weekly palindrome:

“Evil Olive.” I’ve always suspected that, but I didn’t know it was true.. hmm.

Goodnight/Good Afternoon/Good Evening, depending on when you read this!
