Summer Events!

Hey everyone!!! This is your list of fun events that you can attend for the next few weeks! 🏄  Also, congrats Common Ground on a fantastic Tour!!!

On Sunday, June 21st will be the outdoor worship kick off starting at 10:45 A.M. with a BBQ afterwards, hope to see all of you out there!

On Wednesday, June 24th the high school and college kids will be attending an event where you will create your own outing and dinner from 2-7 and you will meet in the youth room. You can decide where you want to go and where you want to eat dinner, bring around $20. At 7:15 P.M. there will be the final detroit meeting with your parents, meet in the youth room.

On Sunday, June 28th is the Gay Pride Parade in SanFrancisco. Here is a note from pastor Gabi about the parade: If you believe that God’s love extends to everyone, proclaim your faith and experience walking in the 2015 SF Pride Parade together with other people of faith. This is an opportunity to show God’s love to those who sadly associate Christians with hatred and prejudice. How? Hop on the Bethel Bus on Sunday, June 28 at 7:30am. We then will take BART between the Daly City and Embarcadero BART stations (bring around $25 for train fare and food with you). The day will include Scripture lesson, reflection, communion, coffee, and pastries on the bus. Around 10am, we will join other Lutheran congregations as part of the “Reconciling Works” (formerly “Lutherans Concerned) contingent at Beale Street. The bus will pick us up around 1pm and take us back to Bethel. For more information, contact Pr. Gabi. Also at 6:00 P.M. there will be a labor day retreat meeting! Contact Tom if you want to help!

On Wednesday, July 1st the junior high, high school, and college kids will be at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk from 12-7:30. Bring money for food and attractions. Sign up outside of the youth room to save your spot!

As a reminder: from now until July 5th will be a diaper drive, where we will be collecting diapers to go and take to detroit. Please donate if you are able to!

On Sunday, July 5th at the 10:45 service will be the commissioning for the detroit youth gathering.

SEE ALL OF YOU LATER!!!!  ☺ ✌  🎆 ⛪

Next Wednesday (8/31)

Hi guys!!

This upcoming wednesday we will be brainstorming about ideas for the year!! We’ll be talking about Wednesday night activities, service projects and discussions to Sunday School topics and deciding whether or not we want to do Common Ground again (cuz, you know, its the most boring event of the year *sarcasm*). So please, calling all high schoolers, EVEN OUR NEWEST CHERUBS, the freshmen. But please only come if you have a brain stuffed full of ideas (that comes with a BIG, FAT JK, cuz my brain’s as empty as the US’s bank account and I will most certainly be there).

This is YOUR program and we need YOU GUYS to help shape it, so PLEASE join me as we plan a most wonderful new year :)

More logistical details to come. Stay tuned.

Your lovely youth assistant,

P.S. Make sure to sign up for LABOR DAY RETREAT this weekend, it’ll be a BLAST! Please talk to any of the youth assistants, Tom, or Molly if you have any questions about registration.

Thrill Ride

Thriving Through Life’s Ups and Downs

Labor Day Retreat 2010
September 4, 5 and 6th
Mt. Cross Camp, Felton

Over 130 Bethel members and friends experienced a “thrilling time” at this year’s Labor Day Retreat as Mt. Cross was transformed into a mini amusement park.

Our speaker at this year’s event was Rene Schlaepfer, Sr. Pastor at Twin Lakes Church in Aptos and author of the book “Thrill Ride – Thriving Through Life’s Ups and Downs”.  Throughout the weekend Pastor Rene shared insights from his book highlighting, at times in amusing fashion, his own personal ups and downs.  Using scriptural references of the lives of Moses and David he showed us how God promises to be with us too as we navigate through the rollercoasters of our own lives.

The thrill ride theme was highlighted at worship with a liturgical drama “The Ride of Your Life” which followed riders waiting in line for a thrilling but unknown rafting ride.  Rafters were encouraged to take their faith outside the comfort and security of the “park” where they could experience great fulfillment and joy – as long as they follow their guide.   Worship continued as participants were divided into “boats”, complete with oars and flags. Members of each boat were encouraged to explore how they’ve experienced uncertainty as members of Bethel Church but also hope and joy for the future with Jesus Christ as our guide.

In addition to this year’s dynamic speaker, the usual fun activities were back – this year with an amusement park theme! Favorite events like the opening mixers, campfire, carnival, Olympics, and the variety show allowed for new friends to be made and reconnecting with old ones.  Retreat goers certainly had plenty to do but also had time to kick back, relax, and enjoy the beauty that surrounded them.

If you would like to view Pr. Rene’s sessions from the Labor Day Retreat weekend, videos are available online.  DVDs will also be available in the Bethel Library.

Many thanks to all the committee members who made this weekend possible. If you are interested in helping with next year’s retreat, please contact the church office.
