April 6th and on

Tuesday, April 5th, 2011

Greetings yall,

This upcoming Wednesday, 4/6, the Bethel Youth Group will embark on a search for great cheesesteak sandwiches. We have a few locations in mind, but you anybody knows of a good place that specializes in cheesesteak please let us know. Mentioning Subway, even as a joke, will result in demerit points. We will be meeting in the youth room at 5:30 and departing shortly after. Please arrive on time and bring money for dinner. Upon returning, we will have a discussion in the youth room about balance.

This friday is our Sonoma Chicken Coop fundraiser. Please feel free to bring any friends and family that are interested

This upcoming Sunday, we will be writing letters to the Senator of California on matters that concern the church. We will meet in the youth room at 9:30. Be sure to put your game faces on.

Mission to Mexico begins April 16th. Everybody interested in going MUST HAVE A VALID U.S. PASSPORT. Also, don’t forget to fundraise to lower the cost for you to go.

Common Ground Tour Payment is due…….ANYTIME. Make sure not to turn it in late.

Hope to see everybody soon,

Love

Jeff Mackenzie and Jackie

upcoming events for the youth

Monday, March 28th, 2011

Yo comrades,

Hope everybody has been doing well. This upcoming Wednesday, March the 30th, will be a Bethel Youth potluck/game night. Be sure to bring your favorite food to share with the group and be ready to play some rockin’ games. We will meet in the youth room at 6 30 in the PM.

The following Sunday, we will be writing letters. Meet in the youth room at 9 30.

The Wednesday following the following Sunday (yes I just confused you), we will be off to dinner at 530 and then meeting back in the youth room for one of our famous discussions. Be ready to discuss.

Some reminders

Common Ground practices start at 7:15 in the music room, unless you are involved in drama or are a musician. See Rita (music) or Jillian (drama) for the correct time to arrive.

Be sure to start fundraising for the mexico trip. We leave April 16th so get busy.

The first Common Ground tour payment of 75 dollars is due anytime. Though this sounds lenient, I will personally be hunting you down if you fail to pay in a timely manner.

Just kidding.

But seriously don’t make me coming looking for you.

Jesus loves you.

Hope to see everybody soon,

Love, Jeff

March the 23 and on

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Sup yall,

Tomorrow, Wednesday the 23th (Mackenzie’s favorite number), we will be off to Chicken Salsa for some of the best mexican food ever assembled. After dining on both chicken and salsa, we will be returning to church to discuss the upcoming Mission to Mexico trip with our fearless leader Sir Thomas. For those of you who have not gone with us to mexico before/or whom’s parents who have concerns which they wish to express, yall are encouraged to come to the youth room at 7:15 in the pm.

Sunday the 27 at 9:30 am, we will be receiving an update on Japan’s status and making paper cranes to help raise money. Doughnut holes will be provided courtesy of the Great Thomas.

Finally, Tom has asked me to share some words of wisdom regarding balance for the concluding months in our school year.

Unfortunately, as a second semester senior, I have little useful information to share.

However, I will use the words of someone else who’s name eludes me.

Though we have nearly reached our goals, we must put forth no less effort. For to see our dream elude our reach when we are so close is an unacceptable result for our days of work. Put no more energy into leisure than you would into this work, yet do not allow yourself to forget that every man needs his rest. Find balance from within so that you do not lose sight of what is important; whether in academics or in sharing time with those dear to you.

Hope to see everybody soon,

Love,

Jeff, Jackie and Mackenzie.

Advice to Parents/Youth (your ideas homies)

Tuesday, March 8th, 2011

Some of our favorite advice to both youth and parents from both parents and youth.

From Parents to Youth.

How to live a happier life.

1. You can’t please everyone

2. Smile when you say “no”

3. Don’t sweat the small stuff

4. There IS life after high school

5. Don’t lose yourself to others

6. You are not responsible for the happiness of others

7. Jesus will ALWAYS be there

8. Life goes on without your cell phone

9. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes

10. Your parents were once teenagers as well. Their advice is invaluable

11. Communicate in person

12. Find the time to disconnect

How adults find balance

1. Make time for God

2. Relationships are better in person, not facebook

3. Make time for yourself

4. Productivity vs down time

From Youth to Parents

Hardest thing for you to keep in balance

1. Academics

2. Athletics

3. Social life

4. Family

5. Religion

6. Significant others

7. Schedules

How to be a better parent

1. Actively listen to your child

2. Allow us to vent without trying to fix the problem

3. Take problems at face value

4. Support what is important to us

5. If you are mad at one child, don’t take it out on the other

6. Trust that we will make the right decisions

7. Be open minded towards our lifestyle choices

8. Don’t push us into activities we are not interested in

9. Communicate as a family

Both youth and adults can learn a lot from each other.

From being better communicators to finding the time to relax and rejuvenate.

So we challenge you to take these words of advice to heart and try some of them out! (Its possible they may actually be helpful)

:]

You just got PUNKED.

And now for some food for thought!

Coming into our Easter season, now is a lovely time to reflect on all the gifts we have been given by God. In my own life, I have recently been admiring the aesthetically pleasing landscape that surrounds us. I heard the snow retreat was a pretty ballin’ time up in the wild and beautiful mountains and if you life around C-town(Cupertino) I am sure you have been noticing all of the beautiful and abundant cherry blossoms. If you have some extra time this week, or are simply procrastinating take a look outside and think about how lucky we are to be ourselves :)

Hope to see you alot this week!

The coming two weeks

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Greetings my friends!

I’m getting ready to take off across country to tech the ELCA Youth Ministry Extravaganza in Kansas City, MO. While I’m gone we won’t miss a step with great activities planned by Jeff, Mac, and Jackie. They’ll have a great supporting crew and you should all have a productive and fun time.

I really want you all to keep David and all the Schrey’s in your prayers as David is scheduled for open heart surgery one week from today (Jan 21st) as they remove the old pacemaker lead, repair one heart valve, replace one with a cow valve (moooooooooo), and install a new pacemaker. Lot’s of skill, courage, and peace will be needed that day and determination and optimism in the days to come. Remember to throw David a note or text of encouragement too.

Here’s the scoop for the next 16 days:
Sunday 16th @ 8:30am:
Meet in the kitchen to make breakfast for the 9th grade confirmation class.
Wednesday 19th @ 5:15pm: Leave for 2nd Harvest Food Bank to lend a hand. Make sure to wear long pants, closed toe shoes, and a shirt with sleeves. Here are the two release forms as well: 2nd Harvest Volunteer Agreement (98.6 KiB) 2nd Harvest Youth Permission Slip (45.0 KiB)
Sunday 23rd @ 9:15am: Meet in the Fireside Room for the final installment of “Feminine Images of God” – How it applies to the church today.
Wednesday 26th @ 5:30pm: Leave for Togo’s and two rounds of shoot ‘em up at Laserquest
Sunday 30th @ 10:30am: Confirmation Sunday

Have a great couple of weeks and feel free to send a message or call me if you’d like.
Peace, Tom
