Cuz it’s time for the annual Shoreline Picnic! This Wednesday we will meet at Bethel at 5:30 and head over to Togo’s for some awesome picnic food. You can bring a sack lunch as well. In the future (Wednesday, 9/21) we will have a discussion about NOW drawing on experiences from the past to improve our future as a youth group all the while focusing on what we can do NOW to make that happen.

Wednesday Parental Unit Orientation (9/14)

Monday, September 12th, 2011

Hello my beautiful cherubs.

Please accept this cordial invitation to join Tom, Michael, Megan, Hannah, Molly, Marianne, Susan, Robyn, Jeanine, Carol and me as we gear up for this coming year. We will be having dinner at 6. Dinner will be followed by a presentation about all the upcoming events for this year. This includes information about Wildside (6th, 7th and 8th Fellowship), Confirmation (7th and 8th Classes), Affirmation of Baptism (9th grade Confirmation), Wednesday night Fellowship (Sr. High), Ski trip (Sr. High), Common Ground (Sr. High), Mission to Mexico (Sr. High), and the National Youth Gathering (Sr. High). It’s all very confusing, I know, but that is why were are having this meeting. :) To make sure Michael doesn’t end up getting Confirmed again (even if he may need it) and to make sure Erin doesn’t end up having a discussion on the stresses of college apps (even if the saying is the earlier the better).

Anyway, all students (6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th) please bring all parental/other guardian type units (moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandmothers, fairy godmothers, etc.) and join us for an exciting informational meeting filled with hamburgers, hotdogs, games and a wonderful introduction to NOW.

Love,

Your lovely youth assistants,

Tyler, Megan, Michael, Hannah

P.S. RSVP to Tom by calling Bethel at 408-252-8500 X113 or by sending an email to to----@------.net

Next Wednesday (8/31)

Saturday, August 27th, 2011

Hi guys!!

This upcoming wednesday we will be brainstorming about ideas for the year!! We’ll be talking about Wednesday night activities, service projects and discussions to Sunday School topics and deciding whether or not we want to do Common Ground again (cuz, you know, its the most boring event of the year *sarcasm*). So please, calling all high schoolers, EVEN OUR NEWEST CHERUBS, the freshmen. But please only come if you have a brain stuffed full of ideas (that comes with a BIG, FAT JK, cuz my brain’s as empty as the US’s bank account and I will most certainly be there).

This is YOUR program and we need YOU GUYS to help shape it, so PLEASE join me as we plan a most wonderful new year :)

More logistical details to come. Stay tuned.

Love,

Your lovely youth assistant,

Tyler

P.S. Make sure to sign up for LABOR DAY RETREAT this weekend, it’ll be a BLAST! Please talk to any of the youth assistants, Tom, or Molly if you have any questions about registration.

International Extravaganza – Wed, Aug 10th

Sunday, August 7th, 2011

So friends,

After a flurry of responses and research, we have landed on an event for Wednesday. While the age honored classic, River Float, can’t be replaced and will surely be back next year, I think we’ve got a great day planned for this coming Wednesday. This day is intended for all Sr High and College types plus parents who want to join in for the day.

Here’s the scoop:
Meet at Bethel at 8am (One hour extra sleep :-)
New York, Jewish bagel festival {Noah’s}
Washington beverage delight {Starbucks}
Spend the day swimming, tubing, kayaking on the Russian River {Johnson Beach}
check out johnsonbeach.com for info on rentals and food
American BBQ lunch {Johnson Beach}
Pro Status Italian Dinner in world famous Occidental {Union Hotel}
Return to Bethel between 8 and 9pm

So here’s what you need to bring:
1. A $30 check (or cash) made out to Bethel Lutheran Church (this covers transportation, umbrellas at the beach, and the most delicious dinner ever
2. $ for Noah’s / Starbucks & Lunch at Johnson Beach (you can bring a sack lunch too)
3. $ to rent a tube ($5 per day), or canoes, single/double kayaks, and pedal boats ($10 per hour).
4. A beach chair or you can rent one for $6 per day
5. Swim wear, a towel, and sunscreen
6. A change of clothes for the ride home
7. Snacks to share
8. A great attitude for a great day !

Please email me at th----@------.net or text me at 408-309-9975 to save your spot (and for a friend or two). Do it soon because space is limited.

Peace, Tom

Trouble on the River :-(

Saturday, August 6th, 2011

Hi Friends,
Well, after making my post yesterday with details about the River Float, I got a call from the raft company saying that for the first time in modern history, The Bureau of River something or other is shutting down the flow of the American River next Wednesday (our River Float date). This has traditionally happened in the month of September. So, we are left with a question: What to do?

I am conducting a 24 hour poll to decide this question. Please indicate your vote by text (408-309-9975) or by email (th----@------.net) by 8am tomorrow and I’ll announce the outcome during worship.

Here are your choices:
1. Reschedule the River Float to Thursday, August 11th
2. Reschedule the River Float to Wednesday, August 17th
3. Do a different trip (possibly rafting on the Russian River or other mystery activity) on Wednesday, August 10th

Cast your vote now :-)

Tom
