Some Updates for You!

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Happy Saturday night my friends!

I want give you the scoop on several upcoming things.  So, here it goes:

Boating Trip: Tomorrow is the deadline to sign up and pay for this fun filled, one day event (see the last post for details).  The cost is $55 to cover fuel, drinks and food while we’re out at the lake.  You also need to bring about $20 to cover morning snacks and dinner on the way home.  The sign up sheet is on “The Wall” and I’ve got room for 12 people max.

Beach Bonfire Night: This coming Wednesday, August 12th from 5:15pm to 10pm.  The cost is $10 plus bring money for dinner.  We’ll spend the sundown enjoying each other’s company, some singing, sharing, and smores.  Sign up on “The Wall” to save your spot for this one as well.

Malibu Grand Prix: I’m moving the date of this event because Chico State changed the move in date for Julia.  What’s a dad to do but take his girl to college?  We’ll be going to Malibu on Monday, August 17th at 5:30 pm and I’ll have the cost and details for you in a couple of days.

Youth Assistant Applications: Its time my friends:  Any incoming High School Sr is encouraged to apply to be one of Bethel’s Sr Hight Youth Assistants this year.  If you are interested, please contact me in the next day or two.  I’ll be accepting applications this coming week and the decision will be made in the next two weeks.  Here’s what I need from you:  A typed letter indicating why you want to be a youth assistant, what gifts you have to offer, what you are most passionate about this coming year for Bethel’s youth group, and a section talking about your grades in school.  I also need you to submit something showing your creativity (art, writing, video, song, its up to you), and a note from your parents indicating their support for you as a youth assistant.

Labor Day Retreat: Make sure to sign up for or annual “all congregational” retreat.  We always have a great time and this retreat is sure not to disappoint.  You can sign up Sunday morning at the registration table.

That’s about it for now.  If you have any questions, comments, or random facts to share, you can always email me at th----@------.net

Two Events – Twice the Fun!

Friday, August 7th, 2009

Hi Friends,

I wanted to give you an update regarding the change of plans for the boating trip, plus the addition of a well loved event:  Due to scheduling issues, only a few people are able to attend the three day boating trip next week, So – I’ve decided to make the boating trip a one day event next Tuesday, August 11th.  We’ll depart Bethel at 7:30 am, stop in at Starbucks and head over to Lake Tulloch for a day of boating adventure.  We’ll return that evening via Sonic Burger and should be back between 9 and 10 pm.  This event is open to Sr High and College students and limited to 12 people.  I’ll send out the cost for this fun filled day tomorrow night so bring a check and secure your spot on Sunday.

Now here’s the bonus:  This coming Wednesday night, August 12th we’ll head over to the Santa Cruz area for our annual beach dinner and bonfire.  The cost for this event will be $10 plus money for dinner at Togo’s.  We’ll meet at Bethel at 5:15pm and be back by 10pm (hopefully, all you “Y” staffers will be able to join us).  Sign up for this as well on Sunday.  These will both be great days.

Peace, Tom

Boating Anyone?

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

After months of trying to find a place up to the challenge of hosting our youth group for the boating trip.  This year’s lucky pool of water is Lake Tulloch, located at the base of the Sierra’s on the way to Angle’s Camp.  The trip dates are Monday morning, August 10th to Wednesday afternoon, August 12th.  We’ll be renting standard, 4 person, hotel rooms and need to limit the trip to 16 total participants.  The cost for the trip is $155 (the same as last year).  This will pay for lodging, fuel, and food (except for lunch on the way up, dinner on the way back, and one dinner while we’re at the lake).

Make sure to RSVP right away to snag a spot.  You can email me at th----@------.net, call me on my cell, or sign up on “The Wall”.  A deposit of $100 is due Sunday, August 9th to secure your spot.  I’ll have a checklist and more details next Sunday as well.

Peace, Tom
